Wingberry Farms: A Q&A with one of the Former Owners of Wingberry Farms Equestrian Stable
Wingberry Farms isn’t your average country property. Set on 75 acres in King Township — one of the most desirable rural communities just north of Toronto — this working equestrian farm is a rare find.
The estate offers three legal residences, two DutchMaster-built stables and with 30+ stalls, multiple well-maintained paddocks, a massive indoor arena, Olympic-sized grass riding ring, a second outdoor ring with excellent footing, two heated workshops, a 5-car garage and workshop, a detached garage with nanny’s suite, plus lifestyle features such as a swimming pond, tennis courts, and trails.
To understand the magic of Wingberry, I spoke with Shawn Littler, who lived on the propertyand ran the equestrian business with her father, Harry Littler Sr., for over 15 years. Here’s what she had to say.
Q: Let’s start with the equestrian setup. What did you run here, and how is the farm laid out?
A: We ran it as a private A-circuit hunter/jumper competition facility with elite trainers like Margie Gayford, Yann Candele, and Sarah Johnstone. The barn has over 30 large stalls, grooming and wash stalls, tack and feed areas, and ample hay storage.
The land itself is a gift — gently rolling, well-drained, and usable year-round. There are multiple paddocks with quality fencing, plus two additional riding rings and endless trails. Horses love it here. The indoor arena is naturally warm in winter thanks to the large windows but for those extra cold days the arena is heated, and there are even extra quarantine and overflow stalls for flexibility.
Q: How is the land used across the 75 acres?
A: About 25 acres are cleared for paddocks and hay fields, while the rest includes trails, forest, and open meadows. The elevation offers incredible views — especially from the log cabin-style guest house perched higher on the ridge.
It’s peaceful, private, and perfectly set up for hacking through rivers, valleys, and fields. There’s even a large paddock for retired horses to live outside comfortably.
Q: Do you have a magical memory from your years at Wingberry Farms?
A: Absolutely. I married the love of my life here, surrounded by family. My father and I both rode in on horseback, me on my horse Serengeti that I had owned since I was a child. — a moment that will forever tie the farm and my father’s memory together for me.
Another unforgettable highlight was when Wingberry was named Owner of the Year after only six years in business. My father and I accepted the award at the Royal Winter Fair Horse Show alongside our lead trainer, Margie Gayford. That was a proud and emotional milestone.
Watching our horses compete.
But perhaps the greatest magic comes from the horses themselves — the incredible animals we’ve owned, trained, and watched compete over the years—Stuntman at Spruce Meadows and him and others at the Royal Winter Fair. They are the heart of this farm, and the reason any of this was ever possible.
Q: Not many properties in King are permitted to havethree homes. How did you make use of that?
A: That’s one of Wingberry’s biggest advantages. We have three separate, legal residences:
Main Estate Home: timeless design with an indoor pool, spa, outdoor kitchen, and apartment-topped garage.
Gate House: modern build with open-concept living, nanny suite, gym, theatre, and forested backyard.
Guest House: deceptively spacious, with staff quarters below. This is where my family lived — private, warm, and full of character.
Access to this family compound, was a dream for my parents who loved having not only their own kids living on the property, but the next generation of grandchildren as well. My parents loved when they strolled over for afternoon swims or just to sit in the grand room and watch sports as a big family.
For anyone running a horse business, it’s ideal. Staff housing, multi-generational living, or income-producing rentals — the options are endless.
Q: What’s the biggest strength of Wingberry Farms for an equestrian buyer?
A: Functionality. Everything is already in place: solid stables, arenas, paddocks, trails, and workshops. You don’t need to build from scratch — just move in and go. Plus, the location can’t be beat. You’re in King Township, close to competition venues, vet care, feed suppliers, and only a short drive from Toronto and Vaughan.
Q: Anything you’d improve or update if you were staying?
A: The stable is in great shape, but some might want to modernize finishes. If I were to make a change, I’d add a service driveway off 8th Concession for horse trailers and client access. It’s possible to do, but we never needed it — our clients respected the privacy and beauty of the property.
