A Chat with the Owners and Builders of Our Exquisite Listing in Nottawa
Q: First of all, can you tell us why you chose to build in the exclusive area of Nottawa?
A: This site was chosen to build on because of its incredible location. Nottawa offers a perfect balance between convenience, country living and natural beauty. It’s close to Collingwood and Georgian Bay, which means easy access to a variety of outdoor activities year-round. Whether it's skiing in the winter or golfing in the summer, everything is right here.
This building lot on this specific street is extraordinary. It backs onto a serene forest and is surrounded by lush green areas, providing a peaceful and private atmosphere. Directly across from this home is a gorgeous equestrian property, adding to the picturesque scenery. Being close to town is great for everyday conveniences, while still feeling immersed in nature, especially with the frequent visits from deer in the yard. It's truly the best of both worlds.
Q: This home has been described as an architectural masterpiece. Can you tell us more about the build?
A: This home was designed and built to be a modern, state-of-the-art home, perfect for multigenerational living. Every detail has been meticulously considered. Starting with the construction, the home is built with insulated concrete form (ICF), providing superior insulation, sound proofing and strength. The walls are almost 40 feet high with 14” thick concrete. The main floor is a floating ICF Ecodeck floor that is over 70” long with no posts! It is one of the largest residential floors that AMVIC has ever completed. Initially this decision was made because of building during COVID and there was a lumber shortage, however it ended up being the better choice regardless. The insulation is unbelievably efficient for such a large home. Architects and multiple engineers worked on this home to ensure efficiencies were maximized in all areas.
The main floor is absolutely breathtaking - there is nothing quite like walking in the front door to this vast open space. 14-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that seamlessly connect you with the outdoors, creating a sense of openness and tranquility throughout the home. This house was constructed with multiple decks, all with a different view and uses in mind. It really does connect the indoors to the outdoors seamlessly.
Q: Why did you choose to put a commercial grade elevator into this exquisite home?
A: The decision to install a commercial-grade elevator ensured that this home is accessible and convenient for everyone, regardless of age or mobility. The vision was to create a multigenerational home, where any and all family members, from grandparents to young children, could move easily between the floors. The elevator not only adds a touch of luxury but also future-proofs the home, making it adaptable to any needs that may evolve over time.
Q: I understand you wanted to make this home a place where you could entertain outside all through the year? What decisions did you make to ensure you were creating an outdoor oasis?
A: Throughout the entire house, the focus was on creating multiple outdoor spaces that offer a variety of settings for relaxation and entertainment. There are six fabulous patios, starting with a large covered front porch that includes a BBQ and lounge area. This space overlooks the 40-foot koi pond with a fountain, providing a perfect backdrop for gatherings.
The primary bedroom has its own private deck that looks out into the beautiful backyard, which is an excellent place to enjoy a morning coffee. Upstairs, there are two patios: a covered rooftop deck at the back with a fantastic hot tub (it had to be lifted onto the deck with a crane because it is almost 40 feet up) and stunning views (talk about stargazing!!) , and a partially covered rooftop deck at the front with seating and a fire pit overlooking Georgian Bay, Wasaga Beach, and the Tiny shoreline. The views are spectacular!
Three of the decks feature AstroTurf and two of the decks have tempered safety glass which was installed for both safety and unobstructed views. These design choices ensure that the outdoor areas are perfect for entertaining in all seasons, whether it's a summer barbecue or a winter hot tub session under the stars.
